Essential components of Sadhana Philosophy and the 8 limbs for Ashtanga Yoga – Q&A
Yoga is the science of experience and a philosophy for living. The eight limbs provide us with a guide for how to lead a fulfilling and powerful life. When we integrate them into each area of our daily experience, we cultivate a deeper connection to our true identity.

Opening the Hips & Protecting the Knees
This session will explore several different ways of opening the hips throughout the practice, as well as introduce different techniques to enhance this ‘hip-opening’ experience, whilst still protecting the knees. Students will come to understand more fully how to get into this area to help advance their personal practice.

Yoga and Ayurveda for a healthy lifestyle, as a powerful healing modality
We will explore the therapeutic aspects of the practice, addressing any injuries, and particular postures or life-style components that can help with healing and sustaining the practice of yoga for your whole life.

The Myth of Back Bending: Fundamentals for a Pain-Free Backbend.
We will look at what is Yoga Chikitsa & Nadi Shodana and how we can purify our energy channels. What kinds of physical & psychological preparations do we need to do to prepare for Intermediate Series. We will explore some back-bending enhancements: looking at the principles of opening the heart, being vulnerable, and the importance to cultivate great strength in the foundation of our lives (and legs). This session will end with a small intro into Restorative Yoga. Students will follow a guided short series of restorative postures practice.

10:30 – 13:00
Strengthening the Connection to the Bandhas
Mula Bandha and Uddiyana Bandha are important keys to the asana practice. This class will bring understanding to what these “energetic locks” really are and how they can be used to create a greater sense of lightness, balance, and ease of movement. Learn to cultivate a deeper understanding and awareness of bandhas in your practice.
This session will include some philosophy & asana practice and end with a period of Q & A.

About Harmony:
Harmony Slater first journeyed to Mysore in 2004 to study with the Jois family. She first received Authorization to teach this method in 2006, directly from Sri K. Pattabhi Jois, and nine years later received Certification from Sharath Jois. She is one of less than 20 women in the world to hold this honor.
Harmony is a strong presence in the Ashtanga community worldwide. She founded two Yoga Schools in Canada, and in addition to her teaching, she has shared her experiences with the practice, pregnancy and childbirth in the books: Yoga Sadhana for Mothers and Strength and Grace: A collection of Essays by Women of Ashtanga Yoga. She has a wealth of knowledge to offer students, and openly shares her insights about experiencing the full integration of Ashtanga Yoga during her workshops.
